Note: According to an undated article describing Annie's coronation as the Osceola, Nebraska Centennial Sweetheart, Annie's husband, Andrew INNESS was born in a sod house in Hackberry (Polk County, Nebraska) township in 1873. OBITUARY. The Osceola Record, June 19, 1947, Page 1 Andrew James INNESS, son of John and Rebecca INNESS, was born in a sod house south of Shelby, Nebraska, September 23, 1873, passed from this life at his home last Friday morning at the age of 73 years, 8 months, and 23 days. He was married to Annie Snider, June 8, 1898 and continued to live on a farm south of Shelby until he moved to the farm north of Osceola in 1907. He lived there and raised his family of 3 sons and one daughter until a little more than two years ago when he moved to Osceola. Mr. INNESS was probably the oldest male child born in Polk County. His father and mother came here and helped to lay the foundations and faced the privations with the early pioneers of this county. They were among the first families in the community where they settled. Mr. INNESS was a farmer all of his life. He loved it and was reluctant to move to town when he did. But his health did not permit him to do the necessary work that needed to be done and he and Mrs. INNESS moved to their present location where he could enjoy a few years of retirement. He was a man of his word. He was a good neighbor to all and always counted it a privilege to help another when he was needed. He was a kind husband and father to his family, and he was a member of the Methodist Church all his life. Mr. INNESS is survived by his wife, Annie; 3 sons: Leonard of Omaha, George and John of Osceola; 1 daughter, Dorothy LAMAR of Fargo, North Dakota; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lena [Christena is correct] CARLSON of Albion, Nebraska, and Mrs. Nina MCKEAG of Shelby; 1 brother, William of Norfolk; 5 grandchildren, and other distant relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church on Sunday, June 15th with the Rev. G. A. Randall in charge. Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery.
