a. Note:   1900's. He was laid-off from the railroad and moved to South Carolina with his wife Olive Richards. She died in 1918 from a world-wide influenza epidemic and is buried in the Elmwood Cemetary in Columbia, SC. While Olive was dying, she wrote instructions for Harry to place their four children (John, Harry Jr, Margaret & Elizabeth) in an Episcopal orphanage in Columbia where they were raised. The children were to be kept together and never adopted. Harry honored his wife's dying request. Harry later married Marjorie Mae Williams, who he met in in a storewhere she worked in North Carolina. He was working again with the railroad. They later moved to Hazard, KY when Harry got a job with a mining company. Harry and Marjorie had five children while in KY: Virginia, Hoyt, Robert, Myra, & Thomas. Harry worked for the Blue Diamond Coal Mining Company as the Yard Master and also worked at the Hibbler Hotel (now the Horst Bldg) through the early 1930's. Harry Edward Hamlett, Sr. died in August, 1937 in Hazard, KY at the age of 57 of Tuberculosis.
