School teacher in America before she became missionary. She was one of early single women to become Missionaries. In Tokat she worked among the women and children. She married widower Cyrus Hamlin in 1859, knowing that he was making preliminary arrangements to start up a proposed college. In May of 1860 his formal connections with the Board ceased and hers automatically did also. Soon after their marriage, leaving the children in good hands in Turkey, they went to America to secure funds and equipment. After her husband's connection with the college was terminated in 1877, they returned to America for good.
Mission records list four children (Mary Ann, Emma, Alice and Christopher) of this marriage. Memorial books list only three (Mary, Emma and Christopher). American Board of Missions Register of Baptism Vol. II, Entry 179, states that he was baptized 9 Sep 1866 at Bebek by W. G. Schaufler.
