Notes
a. Note:   [Extract of Lake Mills (IA) Graphic dtd 6 May 1896] Died, Dan T Sabin, Fri. 1 May 1896, of paralysis of almost 18 hours, at the advanced age of 78 years. The remains
were taken to Northwood Saturday and interred beside a son who lies at that place; and on yesterday afternoon at
3 o'clock Rev. McBurney of Daws, IA delivered a memorial sermon to a large concourse of friends and relatives.
Thus again the hand of death has stricken down one more of the best citizens of this vicinity. Mr Sabin was a good
christian man and a member of the Methodist Church of this place and was class leader for a number of years.
He was born in the town of Wales, Eris Co, NY, 22 Nov 1817, living there until 16 years of age when he left his
fathers's home to battle his way through life. In his search for the means of support he first worked on a farm,
but finally chose the lake and followed it for a number of years. He made his home in Euclid, OH and while at
that place became acquainted with Olive Woodworth to whom he was married 27 Sep 1838. He remained on the
lake until after his second child was born, but finally ties were too strong in his loving heart and he finally
settled down in WI and turned farmer. He came to town almost 25 years ago first settling near Northwood,
afterwards removing to Plymouth and finally coming to Lake Mills about 19 years ago, where he has lived up to
the time of his death. Five children were born to this union, two boys and three girls, of which only two girls are
living, one in CA and one in the town of London, east of Northwood. He was a kind and loving husbnad, highly
respected by all who knew him and counted every man his friend. His loss, while causing a wound that time
alone can heal, is only what at some time must come to each and every one of us, and he has gone to receive the
reward of a life well lived. Dan's will writen 21 Jan 1892, mentions a wife, Elmina. It was published on 3 June
1896 and filed Sep 1896 in Forest City, Winnebago, IA.
CENSUS: 1850 of Herman Twp, Dodge, WI.
