Note: At age ten (1788) his family left Mass. and moved to Henniker, NH. His older brother Oliver had already been there for about ten years. Some of his married sisters also moved with their families. His was a rather disjointed family as his mother was only 6 years older than the oldest of his fathers children by his first wife. His part of the family stayed in Henniker until late in 1800 when his father went on to Lebanon, New Hampshire, again following Oliver, who had gone a few years before. Josiah stayed behind until 1803, presumably since he turned 21 in 1799 he took over at least a portion of his fathers land. Married: July 9th, 1805 in Lebanon Betsey Colby of Enfield, d.o. Rowell Colby and Lydia Pettengill. They lived in George Hill in a part that at that time was in Sullivan Co., Springfield Twp. Probably only a short distance from Betseys family across the county line. Children: Louisa b. 1806 d. 8/16/1824, buried George Hill Cemetery Lydia b. 1810 d. Sept. 11, 1867 in Enfield, m. 1832 Amos Proctor s.o. William --- 1812? James b. July 14, 1814 George Hill, d. July 25, 1888, m. Catherine Two more daughters probably born 1815, 1817. Listed in the 1840 census unmarried. Betsey Ann b. Jan 13, 1819,living with son John in Hampton in 1880, m. 1837 David Philbrick b. 1809 in Hampton, NH. Hannah P (ettingell?) b. May 12, 1820, m. Malachi F. Dodge June 1842 Enfield Died: June 15, 1891 Manchester, New Hampshire. In the 1850 and 1860 census Josiah and Betsey are listed living with their son James and family. Living in the same vicinity were many Philbricks, cousins of Davids, I think. It is interesting that none of Josiah and Betseys children were named after Josiahs family.
