Note: From The American Sanborns, pps. 407-408: Edwin Augustus Grosvenor, b Aug 30, 1845. Descendant of John Grosvenor who was tomahawked by the Indians at Roxbury in 1691. Edwin�s father was prominent physician, mother a writer. Edwin graduated from Amherst in 1867 as class poet and salutatorian. Studied at Andover Theological Seminary and in Paris. At Andover met future wife, Lillian Waters. He was Professor at Robert College for 17 years, resigning in 1890. In 1892 became professor at Amherst and later at Smith. From Washburn, Geo., Fifty Years in Constantinople and Recollections of Robert College, cambridge, Boston and NY: Houghton Mifflin & Co., The Riverside Press, 1909: �Professor Grosvenor had been a tutor for 3 years (at Robert College) and proved so effective he went back and was ordained. He resigned from Robert College in 1890 and became a Professor at Amherst.�
