On October 19, 2001 I recieved a copy of grandpa's birth certificate from the Pocahontas County Recorder/Registrar, 99 Court Square, Pocahontas, IA 50574
On this certificate it states that he did an Amendment to his original birth certificate on March 29, 1983. It was a correction of the way that his first name and middle name were spelt. Originally his name was spelt: Veinent Eugen Harrold. It also states that on October 3, 1972 he was baptized and confirmation for a second time. (Note: I am not sure why he did this. It is around the time that Helen, his wife, was re- baptized in the Catholic Church) At the time that he amended his birth certificate he was living at Rt. 3 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, 50501.

As a young child I, Tonia, remember visiting Vincent and Helen, my grandparents, at their home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They had a beautiful 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage house with a basement, and a large yard. Vincent built this home himself. Vincent loved to make things with wood. He had made a table for the living room for my grandmother out of the trunk of a tree. It was about 8 inches thick by 3 feet long. It was a beautiful table. I have been told that he had also built the china cabinet that covered the entire wall in the dining room. He had made a covered wagon and would pull me in it behind his riding lawn mower while mowing the yard or just playing around going up and down the streets to see the neighbors. He also loved to pull Helen around in a cart attached to the back of his mower. He had made a high chair and a rocking chair for my mother when she was born and they used it for me when I was born. My mother still has these items after all these years.
In 1987 Vincent and Helen made their first trip down to Texas to see me, Tonia, graduate from High School. The heat that year was almost to much for them compared to what they were used to in Iowa. It was a wonderful experience to have them at the graduation. Grandpa was still calling me Charlie Brown on my graduation day, after all these years I am still not sure why he called me that....
Vincent did make one more visit to Texas around 1996 or 1997, I think. At this time he got to meet his great-grandchildren, Ricky and Shawnie. This would be the first and last time that they would see each other before Vincent passed away. I am glad that he was able to see his great-grandchildren at least once during his time on Earth.
