a. Note:   Moved to Kettering in 1931 due to lack of work in Co. Durham Was an active member of the St. John Ambulance Association from 1932, untill called up in 1941 and joined the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers, Army No.4277921. On 29 Oct 1941 Boarded the SS Warwick Castle at Liverpool for Halifax, Nova Scotia. At Halifax Joined USS Orizaba and jurnied by way of Trinidad and Cape Town for Bombay. 22 Jan 1942 embarked on SS Felix Rousell ( Free French) for Singapore. 5 Feb 1942 after attacks from Jap planes, docked at Singapore. 15 Feb 1942 Singapore Surrended and was taken prisoner, and worked on Burma Railway untill May 1944 when he was taken to Japan to work in the Mines, and later to repair shoes. Repatriated Oct 1945.
 Joined Boot and Shoe works in Kettering untill retiement in 1981.
 Was active member of the Royal British Legion.
 In 1978 was awarded the British Empire Medal, in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, for voluntary work on welfare and First Aid given to his company
