Notes
a. Note:   They lived in Whitman County, Washington. Moved to Palouse in 1877. George Nevill Hill Husband of Almeda Mood Among the extensive realty holders of the County is the man whose career we are to here present in brief outline. A pioneer of 1877, he has had opportunity to contribute much toward the industrial progress of the Palouse country, and he has long been an active and efficient promoter of the forward march of this section of the country. Mr. Hill has the distinction of being a son of the West, having been born in Lane County, Oregon, on December 25, 1855. He resided there during all the years of his minority, receiving a good common-school education, but when his majority was attained he removed to Whitman County, Washington. Shortly after his arrival he located on a quarter section of land about eight miles east of Colfax and engaged in farming and stock-raising. His first home in the Palouse country has continued to be the scene of his activities ever since, though his realty holdings have been increased until he is now the owner of 680 acres. He resides in a fine home of two stories surrounded by good out-buildings, among which is a large and commedious barn. About the premises everywhere perceptible is that air of thrift and abundance which characterizes the home of a prosperous and substantial ranchman. Though not especially active in political matters, or ambitious for personal preferment of any kind, Mr. Hill has always so ordered his life as to win and retain the confidence and respect of his neighbors generally, and his standing in the community is in all respects a very enviable one. The marriage of our subject was duly solemnized in this county on May 10, 1885, when Miss Almeda Mood, a daughter of William and Mary Dunlap Mood, became his wife. They have four children, namely: Bessie, Clive, and Florida, living and Iona, deceased. The father of our subject, Hanks Neville Hill was quite a prominent man in the politics of the state of Oregon. He was a leader in the councils of the Democratic Party, and once was elected on that tichet to the state legislature. (Taken from "History of Whitman County" W. H. Lever, Pub. 1901)
