a. Note:   Esther Mathilda was a very religious woman. Her marriage to Isaac was not a happy one.
 Esther, son Leib, and daughter, Gitel, arrived in New York on 10 June 1890 on the Werra from Southampton, England. The children are mis-identified as female, male, but the names and dates make this certainly them.
 The 1900 census says that Esther Mathilda had six children but only three were alive. In 1910, it says that she had 8 children, but only five were living, so prior to 1900, she either miscarried or lost three babies.
