In the death of this gentleman Valparaiso mourns the loss of a most exce llent gentleman and useful citizen. His business and social character wa s above reproach, while his gentleness and kindness of heart endeared hi m to those who formed his acquaintance. He was born in Canandaigua, N. Y. , March 31st, 1816, removed to Mt. Vernon, O., when a young man, and ther e on the 11th of February, 1845, was married to Miss Lydia C. Rouse, wh o now survives him. In April, 1875, he removed with his family (wife an d three sons) to Valparaiso, engaging in the drug business. In the summe r of 1876, Amos, one of the sons, died after a very brief illness, to th e great grief not only of the family, but of the whole community.
  In 1870 Mr. Rowley made a public profession of religion, uniting with th e Congregational church of Mt. Vernon, after coming here he united with t he Presbyterian church. On Sunday, the 8th inst., he attended church morn ing and evening, as was his custom. On that night he retired to bed in hi s usual health, but before morning was seized witht he illness that resul ted in his death Saturday P. M., the 21st inst. During his painful illnes s he was well sustained by his hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ , and very peacefully passed from death to the Saviour's presence. The re mains were interred in the new cemetery on Monday P. M., the funeral serv ices having been held at his late residence and conducted by his pastor , assisted by the pastors of the Baptist and Methodist churches.

The business now conducted by this firm, on the corner of Main and Washi ngton streets, north of the court house, was established by Rowley & So n in the building now occupied by Hawkins & Ross' hardware store. Soon af ter the decease of the senior member, in March, 1879, the firm became Row ley & Letherman, W. C. Letherman taking an interest in the business wit h Andrew Rowley, the junior member of the original firm. The business ha s been conducted in its present location since 1878, to which place it wa s moved by Rowley & Son. The experience and training of the members of th is firm in the specialties of their business make them well fitted to sup ply all demands made by their customers. Their business is rapidly increa sing. As to purity their drugs are unrivaled. They make specialties of pa int, oils and varnishes, of which they keep purest qualities.  OBITUARY
 Mr. Levi Rowley
  In the death of this gentleman Valparaiso mourns the loss of a most excellent gentleman and useful citizen. His business and social character was above reproach, while his gentleness and kindness of heart endeared him to those who formed his acquaintance. He was born in Canandaigua, N. Y., March 31st, 1816, removed to Mt. Vernon, O., when a young man, and there on the 11th of February, 1845, was married to Miss Lydia C. Rouse, who now survives him. In April, 1875, he removed with his family (wife and three sons) to Valparaiso, engaging in the drug business. In the summer of 1876, Amos, one of the sons, died after a very brief illness, to the great grief not only of the family, but of the whole community.
  In 1870 Mr. Rowley made a public profession of religion, uniting with the Congregational church of Mt. Vernon, after coming here he united with the Presbyterian church.
