a. Note:   Robert Glenn Hunter served in the U.S. Army in World War II as an original member of the elite 1st Ranger Battalion (Darby Rangers). His best friend in the Rangers was the future actor Neville Brand. After 1st Rangers were disbanded he was reassigned to the 101st Airborne Division. He jumped into Normandy as a "Pathfinder" the night before the "D-Day" invasion June 6, 1944. He remained in front-line combat units until the German surrender. His unit was then sent to Norway to intern the German Occupation forces still there. He returned to the United States and was demobilized in November 1945.
