Note: Katherine lived at 1169 North Parkway when she took a picture of her grandmother, Mrs. Lucretia Catherine Ijams that appeared in the Commercial Appeal Newspaper. "This is Mrs. Lucretia Catherine Ijams, who died at Corinth, Miss., on Dec. 31, 1936. She came from a family old in Southern history. Their home was destroyed by cannon fire at Shiloh. After her husband's death she wore mourning until she died at 91. The picture was taken by her granddaughter, Miss Katherine Burgess of 1169 North Parkway. Merry and wise, they say, but justly firm, She knew the heart-warmed cloak of ordered ways. She walked in honor through the checkered term Of well-lived years in calm or trouble days. For days she must have known that wrenched her soul, Harsh, black disaster or grim, sullen Death. Her gallant mind, unshaken yet, and whole, Was bright, intact until her final breath. Like all Mothers' Mother, she might stand For every needed blessing that occurs. She watches, smiling, from a Happy Land, For all the days we know are truly here."
