George Forsythe in Los Angeles CA. She worked March and April or so for Douglas Aircraft Co. making bomber airplanes: A-20, DC20, DC3 were the numbers she gave in year 2000 but she also said DC 8 which at least seems incorrect. Betty worked on Airplanes in World War 2, specifically the airplane nose cones, she had to learn to tie special knots to tie parts together. She worked 3-11 pm. One woman was injured by slipping on a banana peel! her maternal aunt Alec Rogers b. 1890 helped in Cortland while Betty gone. Aunt Betty wanted to go to academy awards, George Forsythe took her, as Alex didnt feel like going. Another military officer and pregnant wife left early and let George and Betty have their tickets because George was an army officer. Entertainment was provided during eating their sack lunch/dinner, but it was usually wrestling --which the male workers liked. occasionally Hollywood entertainer; !BIRTH OF FIRST CHILD: 1996 RUTH BRODIE HACKNEY SAID GEORGE WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT MY BEING BORN 1944 THAT GEORGE JUST COULDN'T CONTAIN HIMSELF.; PARENTING: emphasis was sometimes on making harsh tests by the world to build character , rather than being partner with his child against the cruel world. For example ca. March 1957, Boy Scout local school Troop was going to review me [Tuck] after passing requirements for rank upgrade to Second class Scout. They happened to ask my dad, who was only very briefly and intermittently around my scouting activities, to be on the review board (for other kids, as well as me that night). On learning he was to to do that, I suppose the 100% nurturing, loving, caring parent would probably have quickly given me a little special coaching help--and then sought to keep silent or excuse himself when the inquisition got around to reviewing his own son (me). However, all I remember is his doing sort of the opposite: instead of trying to use his insider status to be my partner, he asked me the hardest question that I was asked by anybody. One could defend his actions on technical grounds that I still remember the question and it was the most important point that he could have taught me (that in first aid, the first thing to check for is lack of breathing because you can die from it the quickest). However, the incident also illustrates the parent's emphasis on harsh testing, rather than nurturing the child as a caring partner against the cruel world. [RE: above story, in 1996 we should avoid the "revisionist history" mistake of being too harsh on judging George as a parent--in that in 1957 [vs. 1990's] not many N.American fathers hugged their sons nor saw their function as primarily nurturing etc.--certainly the 1990's parody of "raising child's self esteem" is kind of the opposite of what many 1950's fathers were into. But maybe George was even less into "raising child's self esteem" than even the average 1950's father; ADDRESS (1966): 835 Lathrop Dr., Stanford, CA, 94305 2005 october 15: Tad, you asked Wednesday about whether my parents, George & Sandra Forsythe, were organized. The short answer I gave then was maybe they were too organized. They were maybe at the opposite end of the intentional-life-planning spectrum from you kids. You mostly just see grandpa's "near-look"; whereas my parent's mostly just saw the "far vision". If you two maybe don't naturally integrate "far-vision" peiorities very gracefully into your every-minute instant decisions----my parents were a little too blinded by their long-term organizational plan, to gracefully set them aside for an hour or a day, in order to take advantage of wonderful spontaneous fun sharing opportunities that arose. Chuck and Dorothy Green showed me how much funner life could be if we have the flexibility to enjoy unanticpatable friendship opportunities, without losing sight of the spirit of our "far-vision" organizational plan.; - QUILTS: 2014 wARREN fORSYTHE HAS QUILTS he thinks came from Brodie family, more likely ones DeEtta got by purchase , rather than old family quilts? STYLE IS CALLED grandma's flower garden, done in little hexagons, with circles of color , surrounded by white background; - GIRLFRIENDS: Had fairly close friendship throughout his life with Harriet "Bunny" Dana, later Mrs. Wm Carroll of Bethesda MD. Bunny was from George's home town of Ann Arbor MI--and also went to same college of Swarthmore. Towards end 1936? of college he began very close relationship with Marguerite "Marnie"/Madge"/"Marge" Cotworth, now in 1990's Mrs. Robt A. Clark of Forbush Mtn Dr in Chapel Hill NC. The relationship continued fairly hot through Christmas 1937 when George was home in MI, close to her in Chicago, from grad school in Rhode Island. She visited him twice in RI feb and Apr 1938. At March spring vacation geo went to IL took her to MI and they set a tentative date ofXmas'38 to get married. April visit wasn't as easily and intensely harmonious as feb visit. Geo's Mom wrote negatives about Marge to Geo ca 1 june--he very confrontationally sent the letter on to Marge, who was very disturbed. By about 10 july 1938 they both were expressing doubts, postponements. She took Alaskan cruise and got involved with Seattle man. She told Geo that in letter and finally terminated George when he came to Oak Park ca 20 Aug 1938. George remained in RI through a lot of summer of 1938, while she was in Oak Park IL. He still was imagining marrying Madge, but his actions/distance-apart-from-her maybe spoke louder?? -- Marguerite Claire"Madge" "Marnie" "Marge" Cotsworth , born 1915 Cook Co IL Swarthmore College graduate, married #1 Arthur Howard Hammann, 2 kids and divorced, bef 1952 marriage to Robert A CLARK . Mary Kay was almost 4 years older and had a stronger physical relationship w. George whereas Virginia Vawter b. 4 oct 1916, now Mrs. Richard J. Storr of Spring Garden Ave in Toronto, had a closer intellectual/family connection. Although she was a biology grad student in Boston MA, her family apparently lived near Ann Arbor MI--as not only she, but her parents are frequently mentioned near there. Readers of George's diary may see incomprehensible discrepancy between George's writing that he was considering whether he should marry Jinny--all the while acknowledging that he hadn't driven (he had a car and gas money) the 100 miles to see her for 3 months, and not even kept up very frequent correspondence!! A 1939 flame was Helen Brush, who lived in Providence RI and was possibly a psychology undergrad student at Brown/Pembroke?? She was about 2 years younger than George. He didnt break up with her until ca 17 jan 1940, but he had been doing stuff like sharing meals with future wife Sandra Illmer essentially from the day she arrived at Math Dept of Brown U. late sept 1939. They weren't friends but knew each other at Swarthmore college when he was senior and she sophomore. George helped her move in and found her a more satisfactory rooming situation within her first week on campus. But she was a rare woman in math dept and had good friendships with lots of male grad students. George preferred the more dedicated relationship with Helen Brush most of fall 1939 as far as close physical affection etc. [note that in reading George's diaries about interactions with girlfriends, after much comparison, Tuck is finally sure that George refers to the non-intercourse "petting" etc misleadingly today in his diary as "having SEX": whereas it seems fairly clear that there was not any of the actual intercourse that would be inferred from that term 60 years later now]; Warren “Tuck” Forsythe Box1299 Ellensburg WA 98926 – forsythe (at) fairpoint.net - Post marriage 1941- 1957 locationsof my parents and me and my sister Written mostly by my dad GeorgeForsythe , with participation on 1946-1949 letters by my mom Alexandra “Alec/Sandra”Illmer [later Mrs Forsythe] BRIEF:as a couple Jun 1942 –Dec 1943 IN L.A., 1944 to end of war in Arlington VA - 16-20 June 1941 Honeymoon in BangorMaine area (?Kezar Lake?)
