Note: s home in St Mary's she could always be found sitting at the kitchen table with her feet on the rungs of the chair reading a book.
Aunt Jean remembers Lydia had long hair which she washed every Sunday morning before church with Lifebouy soap. Her hair was brushed dry and then she would rub it with a silk scarf to bring out the shine. She would also keep her hair free of nits by powdering it with sulphur. Lydia used to grow pumpkins and fruit trees. She put in a peach tree that had thorns to stop her grandchildren from stealing the fruit. Uncle Eric got along very well with his grandmother and she taught him to cook. Mum used to have lots of conversations with her grandmother about religion.
