Note: es Grant plus 2 children, and Janet aged 25. The Log reads: POLLOCK David aged 23 Coachmaker Church of Scotland born Edinburgh parents David and Elizabeth both dead [film no 2467] David was by trade a coach builder and for a time lived at Portview Cottage Paddington (1861 directory). His original signature is on Janet's marriage certificate when he acted as witness in 1855. On New Years eve 1862 David married his first wife Elizabeth Hanslow daughter of Peter Hanslow proprietor of the Dog and Duck in George Street. His marriage was reported in the newspaper as having taken place at 105 Princes Street. David's address at this time was Botany Road. James Grant acted as witness to the marriage. David and Elizabeth moved out to Penrith, possibly because she was ill with consumption and she may have a better chance out of the city. He wasnt recorded on the electoral roll in 1869/70. She eventually died in 1870 at age 32 and was buried in St Stephens Penrith. David and Elizabeth had no children. Five months later David married young Mary Ann Iles (18 years his junior) at St Mary Magdalene Church. His occupation was still coach builder. Between 1873 and 1875 the Pollocks lived at Castlereagh Street Penrith then moved to North Street where David the first of their five children was born. The family lived in Commercial Street from 1883 til 1894. David snr was now a carriage examiner with the Railways. There was a report in the Nepean Times on the 30 June 1888 of the death of Mr James Trives a railway guard who dropped dead at the railway station. David Pollock went as a messenger to Mrs Trives to tell her her husband was ill to which she was seized with a violent fit and it was some hours later before she was told that her husband had died. He died of cancer of the pancreas at Commercial Street Penrith in 1892 aged 61 and his occupation at the time was railway employee. He is buried with his first wife at St Stephens Church Penrith. David had funeral notices in the Nepean Times and the Sydney Morning Herald. Funeral Notice: The friends of the late David Pollack are repectfully invited to his Funeral; to move from his residence , Commercial Road, Penrith Tomorrow Sunday at 2 pm. Mary Ann remarried in 1894 to Henry Wiltshire a seaman in Granville. She gave her age as 39 but she was 45, possibly because Henry was only 35. There were no children from this marriage. Henry died in 1900 from supposedly eating poisoned sausages. Mary Ann died age 77 in Lidcombe Hospital but her earlier address is given as Cooper Street Redfern. Mary Ann was buried at CofE Rookwood but I am unable to find a record of it. Mavis Chappell said that Elsie told her they lived across the road from Penrith Station in a Railways house [this building is now heritage listed and used as a drug referral centre]. Elsie said her mother ran a lodging house at 26 Cooper St Redfern [where young Arthur died of meningitis].
Note: David arrived in Sydney on the "Stamboul" 31 Oct 1854 with his sisters Mary , her husband Jam
