a. Note:   s born in Weston-Super-Mare North Somerset UK. The 1851 census gives her birthplace at Worle Somerset.
  It is unknown how Mary Ann met David. It is known through family stories that Mary Ann was not liked by her sisters-in-law. My theory is that she went to live with David and his ailing wife, possibly as a housekeeper. After Elizabeth died David married Mary Ann to protect her from gossip. This was because there was 6 years between their marriage and the birth of David jnr. Maybe David grew to love her. The sisters-in-law probably thought she was a scheming hussy.
  Aunt Jean vaguely remembers her as being very tiny.
