a. Note:   se his father was also David he adopted Stanley as his first name and used it in all official documents. He was born in "Rose Cottage", delivered by his grandmother and his aunt Mildred.
 Stan was a railway employee until he joined the 35th Battalion, Australian Imperial Expeditionary Force on 11 April 1916. He suffered from trench fever quite a bit in France and at one time was sent back to England to recuperate. On his return to France he was shot twice and returned to England. He than suffered from tonsilitis and went searching for his families origins, just making it back before being declared AWOL. On his discharge certificate No 168693 at the top is the word Plassy. He was in the service three years 248 days and spent three years 57 days abroad. He was issued with Returned Soldiers badge 178961, four blue chevrons and a civilian suit & cap. His scars were gun shot wounds to left breast and left leg. On discharge he went to live at 13 Baldwin Street Erskinville Sydney NSW. On his return from the war he had decided on another career. He gave his reasons for leaving the railway that he was demoted to firelighter from engine cleaner. The railway considered hm too short at 5'6" to clean the engines
 Stan met and married Clara Shaw. It is possible they met through the Railway as her grandfather was a Railway engineer. They both lived in Baldwin Street, Erskinville at the time. Uncle Eric said Stan was very ill when he returned from the war and Clara nursed him. Stan was a coppersmith/boiler maker. He spent many years working on Garden Island and retired from there in 1963. Stan liked to go to the horse races. He would sometimes go there with 3 millionaires, his friends who on returning from the war went to Kalgoorlie and made a fortune. He was also asked by Mr Peters if he would like to invest in his icecream factory, but Stan refused.
