It is possible Jacob had bought land from the Falfurrias Immigration Co. owned by Edward C. Lasater. Around the turn of the century, Lassiter owned a very large ranch in the area, he encouraged the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway to connect his ranch to Alice, TX He then offered subdivided ranchland near the railroad at low prices and advertised extensively in the East and Midwest. Falfurrias was in Starr Co. (county seat Rio Grande City) until 1911 when the area became Brooks Co. with Falfurrias as the county seat. A postoffice was added in 1898, and the Falfurrias Facts newspaper in 1906. Jacob Runkle and family lived on a farm in the original section of land offered by Lasater, so his advertisements were probably what encouraged them to move to Texas.
