a. Note:   f birth is an estimate based on 1800 census and the ages of the older children. Maiden name is believed to have been Maxey or Mackey.
  A William Maxey witnessed a deed in Rutherford Co. in April 1807, and a William "Maxcy" a will in Wilson County (which borders Rutherford) a few years earlier. In 1820, a John "Mackey" is listed just above James Ford on the census, and a few years later Maxeys from the area moved to Bond Co., Illinois, where James Ford settled in 1828.
