Note: J.F. Hattersley joined the Hoover Co. in 1920 as chief draftsman following an engineering background with two othr manufacturers. In 1922 he was named assistant chief engineer for Hoover, and in 1927 advanced to the position of executive engineer.
In 1933, he was transferred from engineering activities to administrative duties, with the title of executive assistant. In 1937 he became assistant vice president, and four years later was elected to the board of directors. He became vice president in charge of production in 1945, and in December, 1949 was elected executive vice president. He became president in April 1951. At the same time he was made president of the Hoover Co., Ltd. From 1937 to 1940 he served as a director of the American Die Casting Institute, and in 1938 was named president. He announced his retirement effective January 1, 1954 at a special meeting of the Board of Directors September 17, 1953.
