Notes
a. Note:   sus he's 40 years old, although the " 0 " in the number 40 could be seen as a " 6 " it looks closer to a " 0 ". The census takers 6's are pretty well defined so it seems more likely to be a " 0 " than a " 6 ". In the 1850 census he is listed as born in Maryland but listed as born in Pennsylvania in the 1860 census. It's qiute possible that being born in Maryland and moving to Pennsylvania that after awhile he simply accepted Pa as his new home. Or someone spoke incorrectly to the census taker on his behalf. I will assume for now that he was born in Maryland as is stated in the 1850 census.
I have a theory, It's just a theory so I have a lot of lattitude and it goes like this:
In 1790 there are only 6 head-of-household ( from Heritage Quest Online ) Ingrams in Maryland. Two of those households are in Washington county, Maryland. They are John Ingram and Francis Ingram. Theory: These two are brothers.
There's a William Ingram who is the son of a John Ingram from Washington Co., Maryland. In 1797 this William Ingram moves to Franklin Twp, Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania. Theory: The above two John Ingram's are the same person.
Our Francis Ingram of Southampton, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania was supposedly born in Maryland in 1797. Theory: The Francis Ingram of the 1790 census is the father or grandfather of this Francis Ingram.
Our Francis Ingram had two sons named Josiah and William Ingram however these two spelled their surname Inghram. Even in Josiah's civil war records his name is spelled Inghram.
I found several tax documents two of which reference a Josiah Inghram and William Inghram as being cattle brokers in " Franklin ". The William Ingram of Maryland who settled in Franklin Twp had a son Warren J. Ingram and he began to specialize in Berkshire hogs, Shropshire sheep and Hereford cattle!!! The animals were probably being raised before Warren took over, it seems he increased their importance. I don't know when he took over the farm, maybe in the 1870's.
In addition, the William Ingram of Maryland put in his 1834 will his brother-in-law Stephen Davis and Davis's seven children. After our Rebecca Ingram lost her husband and four children to an explosion she became a housekeeper for a Davis family! So my theory is: These people were related and they knew it.
It's not the only theory I can come up with but this does seem quite plausable.
Those 1790 census records do not show peoples ages so one cannot compare any likelyhood of any relation based on ages because they are unknown as of the writting of this note. Perhaps there are records in Washington county Maryland that will show a relationship between them. The tax documents are not overly specific but the documents read " location and post office " and for Josiah and William it names Franklin and out to the side a letter " W " on one document and " fp " or " tp " on the other. Does this mean township i.e. Twp ?
Of the other location names ( Perry, Washington, Wayne, Waynesburg, Whitely and one that looks like Mt Mom??? ) given for the other people on the documents all except Whitely and " Mt Mom " show up as specific points on the map ( Google Earth ) in and around Huntingdon county when you include Huntingdon in the google search. When you search without Huntingdon they show up as points all over the state of Pennsylvania. They are too far from each other to believe that the tax official was zig zagging across the state. Plus, the documents give a district and division number that would seem to indicate a smaller geographical area of coverage and the location names are not in alphabetical or grouped order and they repeat themselves multiple times throughout the documents in random order which might indicate a " zig zagging " within a small area. There are other indications that the documents cover a small area but for now I think it can be reasonably assumed that the area of Huntingdon and surrounding area are the subjects of the documents and I think that puts our Ingrams with another Ingram line and I think they are related but at this point and time have only theories and no proof.
The tax documents are : U.S. IRS TAX ASSESSMENT LISTS, 1862-1918, TAX YEAR 1865 DISTRICT 24; MONTHLY AND SPECIAL LISTS; JAN-DEC 1865 NARA SERIES M787 ( this document is dated June). The other document is dated MAY 186?. I don't have an NARA series number for this one that I'm aware of. In addition on each document is printed " Division No. " and the number " 10 " has been entered. The tax document looks sort of like a census page, peoples names are listed in a descending column with information particular to them placed out to the side in their appropriate columns.
Note:   It's hard to say when Francis was born. In the 1850 census he's 53 years old. In the 1860 cen
