His funeral was held from the Lutheran church of that place, his pastor, Rev. Lundholm, conducting the services, and his remains laid to rest in Gowrie cemetery. He had friends in every part of this county, friends who valued the cordial sincerity of his life, which was spent in the upbuilding of his community but whose human warmth was felt by all whom he was known. From last week's Gowrie News, we glean the following essential facts of his life.
He was born in Melby parish, Jonkiopings lan, Sweden, September 2l, l854 and passed to the eternal reward at his home in Gowrie, after several months of pain and suffering, March 29, l922, aged 67 years, 6 months, 8 days. He came to this country in l866 at twelve years of age, and lived during the next five years at Altoona, Illinois, at Stratford, Dayton, and Harcourt. In l87l, he moved into Gowrie, where he was in the mercantile business until the organization of the First National Bank of that place, in which he served as president until his death. He was united in marriage on March 25, l877, to Miss Josephine Theolina Larson, who survives with two sons, Frank and Arthur Lindquist of Gowrie, to mourn his passing. One son, George Gilbert, preceded him about ten years ago. He is also mourned by two grandchildren, a brother, Jonas Lindblad at Orion, Illinois, and two sisters, Mrs. J.P.Holmstrom of Harcourt, and Mrs. Carolyn Bjorkgren of Dayton.
At the age of fifteen, he was confirmed at Stratford into the Swedish Lutheran Church, becoming a member of the Gowrie Lutheran church in l876. He gave his Master faithful service to the end of his days, and he became one of the leading men of the Augustana Synod, serving on its various committees. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Pension and Aid Fund Board of the Synod, he had b een a member of the Board of Directors of Augustana College and Theological Seminary at Rock Island, Illinois, and also of the Iowa Lutheran Hospital at Des Moines, but had resigned from the two latter.
