On March 1, 1641/2 he and others were complained of as scoffers and jerrers
of religion and as makeing disorder in the town of Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
!He was named in the Will of his father-in-law Nicholas Busby, written Aug.
28, 1657 and proved Sep. 10, 1657 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He brought his family to America along with his father-in-law and family.
They sailed from Yarmouth, England April 15, 1637 on the ship "John and
Dorothy" landing in Boston June 20, 1637. The first land deed ever executed on Monomoit land now Chatham, Massachusetts was by William Nickerson to his daughter Elizabeth Eldred on
Jan. 15, 1661. On July 4, 1663 he resented a petition to the Plymouth Colony Court for
permission to settle a township at Monomoyick, now Chatham. In the spring of
1664 he took his wife all of his children except Nicholas, and his goods and cattle, and settled on his land bought of the Sagamore Indian named
Mattaquason and his son Towsowet, alias John Quason. Although the title of his land was in dispute with the Colonial Authorities
and continued to be for many years longer, he must have been reasonably
confident that eventually it would come clear, because his sons and daughters cleared farms and built homes of their own on his purchase. He finally gained clear title to his land in 1672. !The examination papers of himself and his wife in preperation to leave
England for New England April 8, 1637.
