Note: [chester wright.FTW] Viva was very active in the First Baptist Church, Wayne, MI and spent many years as the primary Sunday school supervisor. She also helped establish the Pioneer Girls Club at the church. She spent many years working with her mother as cooks for summer church camp. Newspaper reports: MRS. REID ANNOUNCES MARRIAGE OF DAUGHTER Mrs. Mary Reid announces the marriage of her daughter, Viva Reid to Harlan C. Ruark, son Sam Ruark, of Dearborn on Saturday, September 21. (1939) The couple were married by Rev. Ralph Reed at the Baptist parsonage at 8:30 in the evening. Their only witnesses were Mrs. Luena Barker and Mrs. Ralph Reed. They will be at home to their friends on Birch Street in Dearborn, in the near future. HONOR MRS. RUARK MONDAY Mrs. Harlan Ruark, the former Viva Reid, was guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower given by Mrs. Colon Monroe, Mrs. Hugh Prince, Mrs. Walter Schueler and Mrs. Ralph Reed at the Baptist church Monday evening. There were 45 guests present. Games were played and prizes were awarded the winners. At the close of the evening a four-tiered wedding Cake was brought in, which was cut by the bride. Ruark, 78, Grindstone City, died Sunday, December 10, 1989 at Huron Memorial Hospital, Bad Axe, after a short illiness. She was born August 27, 1911 in Deford, the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary (Elley) Reid. She and Harlan C. Ruark were married September 21, 1940 in Wayne. He preceded her in death Oct. 30, 1986. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Donna) Moody, Kinde and Mrs. Jim (Darlene) Nardella, Clawson. Two sons, David S. Ruark, Westland (formerly of Port Austin) and Dennis Ruark, Wayne and ten grandchildren: Synthia, Scott and Suzanne Brown, David S. II, Beth Anne, Tina and Dennis C. Ruark, Michael, Linda and Steven Moody, Mother-in-law to Nora Ruark, Jim Nardella and Bruce Moody. Services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Knoblock Funeral Home, Kinde. Mr. Rex Ruark, nephew, will officiate with burial in the New River Cemetery, Huron City.
