Note: [eeles.GED] He left school when he was 12 years old and went to buy horses for the army. He served in the army during the First World War joining in 1917 and was gassed in France. As a result he had to have oxygen cylinders with him in later life. He was in the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry. Service number possibly 40883. He was awarded the war medal and the victory medal. After the war he worked as a horse bracker for Mr Seaton (who was also a miller) and then Mr Riley. He also drove horses for Billy Smarts Circus and at Mr Seaton's funeral. He kept pigs and chickens at his house and he also trained horses. He was in the Territorial Army from 6/4/1922 to 5/4/1926. His rank was Gunner and his service number was - 745034. He was recruited in Aylesbury into the Royal Artillery. Apparently, he used to feed the trees outside the local pub with beer.
