a. Note:   s 16th birthday. They stayed with Polly Hall, Laura's sister, until John and Furnie arrived. John rented land from Mr. Moore in Poarch the first year, then bought 40 acres in Poarch, where he lived until his death.
  John Isler was a small, short man with bowed legs. In addition to farming, he was an excellent carpenter. He and the boys would do carpenter work, especially in the summers after the crops were "laid by". He also built a new house for the family in the 1940's.
Note:   John moved his family to Poarch, Escambia County, Alabama in December 1906. He and son Furnie traveled by mule and wagon, with the household belongings. Laura and the other children came by train to Atmore, arriving there on 3 Dec. 1906 - Lona'
