Notes
a. Note:   We know very little about Eleanor other than her marriage date and death. We have not found her baptism so we do not know her parentage or where she was born.
Eleanor's death certificate tells us that she died on 25 July 1849 aged 43 years, at 5, Star Place, Bermondsey, cause of death was Asiatic Cholera after 12 hours. (Under occupation it gives us that she was the wife of James Bailey, a Fish Salesman) - The informant of death was an Eleanor Smith, present at the death. date registered was July 27th 1849 signed by the registrar, William Cross. His name as registrar also appears on James Bailey's death certificate in 1952.
It was this certificate and the registration of son James in 1843* that first gave us the link with the Fish trade and Billingsgate market, every other document about James refered to him as an Engraver.
On son James' 1843 birth certificate father James is called "Fellowship Porter" I am told by people in Fishmongers Hall that this term is used exclusively for people working in Billingsgate Market.
