Note: Marriage certificate gives The Parish Church of St. Mary Newington, Surrey on August 28th 1865 Charles Withall, of full age, bachelor, Mercantile Clerk of Nile Street, fathers name, Edmund Withall, Carpenter. TO Mary Ann Bailey, of full age, spinster, (no occupation given) of Nile St, fathers name, James Bailey, Engraver. Married in the Parish Church by Banns by me J.L. Simpson. The couple both signed the register (no Mark) in the presence of Frederic Henry Withall and Eliza Warman........ On the 1871 census we find at 6, Elizabeth Cotages, Walworth. Census area Mary Newington, St. Peters Lambeth, Walworth Charles Withall head/M age 30 Commercial Clerk (Rly) signal? born Kensington. Mary Withall wife/M age 30 born Bermondsey, Surrey Charles J Withall son age 4 Scholar born Kensington Percy B Withall son age 1 born Walworth James Bailey* border/U age 27 Railway Inspecting Engineer born Bermondsey Elizth Humphreys Nurse girl age 12 Nurse Maid born Middx, Clerkenwell * James Bailey is in fact Mary Ann Withall's brother who later on his 1871 marriage certificate in Glasgow, gives the above address as his place of Residence...... A Death certificate for Mary Ann Withall gives Died Dec. 26 1873, aged 32 years, wife of Charles Withall, died of Liver disease, informant was Chas. Withall of 6, Elizabeth Cottages, Walworth; present at the death. It is believed that husband Charles and son Charles or James Charles died within a couple of years of Mary Ann's death, leaving just Percy B Withall who is found on the 1881 census lodging with a possible family member of his father's side. (More research required into this)
