  1919 - traveled by train to Seattle where sister Marie &brother Peter were living. Stayed for two weeks beforetaking the boat to Bellingham. Worked as a chamber maid.
  After moving to Washington State, Henrikka unofficallychanged her name to Etta Ruth.
  1920 - living in Whatcom Co. with her sister, Marie. worked as a waitress in the Langendorf bakery.
  1921 - met Uncle Louis (Henning's brother) on wedding day.
  1937ish - Etta had a chance to marry a wealthy Kansanfarmer, but Bob told her that if she were to ever marryagain, he would leave home and she would never see himagain.

Note:   (Medical):Etta R., age 93, of 5950 Old Guide Rd.,Bellingham WA, passed away April 13, 1994. She was adaughter of Norwegian migrants Henning Dahl and RagnitRatvold and was born January 30, 1901 in St. Croix County,Wisconsin. Etta's father died before she was born and hermother when Etta was in the sixth grade. After living withvarious neighbors she rode in a railroad coach toBellingham, an experience which she found to be extremelyexciting. She married Arthur R. Teshera in Bellingham in1921. He died in 1934, leaving her with the task ofraising six children which she somehow accomplished inspite of the hardships of the great depression. After anumber of years in which she earned a living through childcare, she lived the last 40 years of her life with hereldest son, Bob Teshera, and his wife P.A., where shehelped raise their four daughters, Renee, Andree,Stephanie, and Suzanne. Etta was also preceeded in deathby her son, Jim in 1966, and his wife Adele in 1976. Ettais survived also by, in addition to Bob and P.A., sons,Reverend George Teshera and his wife Beverly, Bellingham,Lee Teshera, Centralia; daughters, Barbara Elsner and herhusband Henry, Brewster, WA and Shirley Gunter and herhusband Bill Gunter, San Jose, CA; twenty seven grand,greatgrand and great-great grandchildren. Etta devotedmost of the last twenty years of her life to making braidedrugs and quilts and sewing childrens' clothing, which shegave to all of the members of her extended family. Most ofher family regarded her enjoyment of sewing as an importantfactor in her reasonably good health and ability to remainactive until the last two days of her life. She was along-time member of the Advent Christian Church, 2100Broadway, Bellingham, where memorial services will beconducted by the Reverend Al Currier at 3:00 PM Saturday,April 16, 1994. A social hour will follow in th churchrecreational room. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.

Note:   Etta worked as a chamber maid & Art as a chef at theRichelieu in Bellingham. Art asked Etta for a date. Hefirst saw Etta when he'd taken Gladys Olsen on a date andhad sat down at Etta's station. He asked Mable, a mutualfriend, about Etta. According to Bessie, Art's mother,Gladys never forgave Art for marrying Etta. Once when Artwas cooking and Etta was talking with him, he cut hisfinger not paying attention to what he was doing.
  When Art & Etta were married, they went to Conway, WA &looked up Etta's Uncle Louis Dahl & his wife, Carolyn. Carolyn & her daughter, Nellie had long faces on & werequite put out because Louis had shaved off his moustache.
