a. Note:   Was born in his grandfather's log house on the Chisholm Trail. One room of the house was donated to the county to use as a courthouse. In 1894, he became a Peace Officer in Belton Texas where he was a deputy sheriff for 2 years before becoming a Texas Ranger. He was stationed in Laredo area for 8 years on the King Ranch.
 'Uncle John' was a 1st cousin to Gov. Jim Ferguson, who was succeeded by his wife, 'Ma' Ferguson
 The family moved to Amarillo in 1922
