In 1854 Josiah H. and Sarah Ann moved to Henderson County, Texas and settled in the eastern portion on the Henderson County and Anderson County Line. They later moved to Anderson County on a farm near Kickapoo, Texas, where they lived during a part of the Civil War. In 1855 George Washington Taylor moved nearby where he remained as a farmer.
Josiah was a wagoner, hauling cotton to market for the merchants of old Kickapoo, Texas, bring back freight on the return trip. These trips were made to Sheveport, Louisana, and other towns where freight was needed to be hauled. He also made trips to west Texas hauling lumber and baled cotton which was sold in east Texas.
