  Dear Jackie:
I am looking into my Ginn family. I think we are closely related to this Ruffin Ginn. He lives next to my James B. Ginn in Pickens Dist. SC on the 1840 census and nearby on 1850 GA. My James B. is in Walker Co., GA. My Ginns are in McNairy Co., TN by 1860 and on to Arkansas after that.

 Hi Jackie
I found your Ginn/Slater and related lines. The James B. Ginn son of Ruffin is my great-great-grandfather. I am curious as to how you made the connection with James B. and Ruffin.
James B. was married to Elizabeth Boatright. They had eleven children, 3 boys and 8 girls. My great-grandfather was Benjamin Franklin, the third child of the eleven. I have the names of all the children if you are interested.
I would like to hear from you. The last that I found James B. was on the 1870 census for Hardin County, Tennessee. The 3 boys and two of the girls moved to Arkansas
I recently obtain Benjamin's pension file from the National Archives. He served with the Union Army and received a pension as well as his widow.

 Hi Jackie
On the 1870 census for Hardin County the Ginns are on Civil District #2, pages 13, 14, 15. Samuel Johnson and Malinda/Malvina are on page 5, CD #2. Martha and her husband John Robinson are #88. Pernetta and her husband Joseph McVey are Civil District #3, and they are #94. They have her named spelled as Parthenia.
James and Elizabeth's children are: Barreak C., Ervin
Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Marinda, Malvina, Pernetta, Martha, Sarah, Samantha, Laura, and Mary C.
My great-grandparents, Benjamin Franklin and Rebecca Elizabeth McConnell, had already moved to Independence County, Arkansas in the spring of 1870. They appear on the census in that county. My grandmother, Nympha, was born in Hardin County. Rebecca Elizabeth was also born in Hardin County. My great-grandfather was apparently born in Walker County, Georgia. His family is on the 1850 Walker County census as you probably know.
Barreak, they called him Bart, Ervin and their sisters, Martha and Pernetta moved to Izard County, Arkansas around 1871. I do not know what happened to James and Elizabeth and the rest of their daughters. I would love to know. As far as I know they did not move to Arkansas.
Benjamin served with the Union Army with Company G, 1st Regiment, Alabama Cavalry. He reenlisted and served with Company A, 7th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry and was discharged along with his regiment on August 9, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.
Which line do you descend from? Steven Riggan, who is a descendant of Pernetta, says that he thinks Ruffin is the father of James B. Ervin Newton had a son named William Ruffin. If you need any other information let me know and I will try and help. I would love to know what happened to James B. and his wife. If you want more on their children let me know.

Hi, I am another descendant of the Ginn's. I come down thur James B.Ginn, like so many of the other's. Nympha Ginn that married my Rufus Issaih Cunningham was my great grandmother. Nannie (my name for her) and Papa lived by my grandparents , their daughter Winnie Celene Cunningham that married Ira Elmore McCullough. My sister Celeste took some pictures of the old rock hosue the day before it was torn down. I will call her tomorrow and get her to have copies made for me, or better yet, have her bring them to me so that I van scan them onto a disc. That way we will have them if anyone wants copies. Are you willing to share a text file of what you have? I would be more than haoppy to share what I have. Also, I would like some of the dates verified that I do have. I have run across the name Jeptha a zillion times a sI was researching James B. This genealogy thing would not be so hard if I didn't have so many 1st cousins that married. My Dance line, Asbury Line, McCullough Line, Cunningham Line, and Carruth Line couldn't seem to keep their hands off each other. Of course it doesn't help that they were all located in Kentucky and Tennessee at one time. Please let me know if I can help you in any way. Looking forward to hearing from you, Ruth Dance-Whitney Stanwood,WA
