a. Note:   http://worldroots.com/brigitte/royal/churchilll.htm: Born in Knowsley, County Lancaster, he was M.P. for Liverpool in 1625. On 26 June 1626 he married Charlotte de La Tremouille and they became the parents of six children. In 1642 he was one of the first to join the King at York and, being that year Lord Lieutenant of North Wales as well as of Cheshire and Lancashire, he had intended to set up the Royal Standard in those parts. He subsequently moved to the Isle of Man to secure that place while his wife sustained the celebrated siege of Lathom House. He was nominated Knight of The Garter but never installed. He fought on the Royalist side throughout the Civil War. After the Battle of Worcester in 1651, he helped Charles II to make his escape but was himself captured by the Parliamentary forces and beheaded at Bolton.
