 PIONEER OF THE COUNTY
JOHN HOSLER, SIXTY-SIX YEARS A RESIDENT,
DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS WITH DROPSY
Quietly ending the life of a well known resident of Huntington and one
who had been a resident of the county or sixty-six years, death came to
John Hosler at his hme on Swan Street Tuesday evening at 7:25. Dropsy,
from which he had suffered since last March, caused his death. In recent
weeks, his condition had rapidly grown more serious and Tuesday relatives
were summoned as it was realized
that he could live but a few hours.
Born in Pennsylvania October 3, 1836, Mr. Hosler's age was therefore nearly seventy-four. Living in that state until he was seven, he came to
Indiana with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hosler, the family settling
in Union Township. Mr. Hosler's marriage to Miss Mary A. Harter was
solemnized June 15, 1866, and soon after they moved to a farm in Clear
Creek Township. There, they resided until seventeen years ago, when they moved to this city, Mr. Hosler accepting employment in the Erie shops.
Until last March, he remained one of the emplohees there, ill health
finally compelling him to give up active life.
Besides the wife, he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Tully
Anson of Union Township, Mrs. Charles Hoover of Lancaster Township, Aaron
Hosler of Whitley County, and Frank, Emery and James Hosler of
Huntington. Brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Aaron Householder of Whitley
County, George, William and Jonathan Hosler of Union Township, and Isaac
Hosler who resides just east of this city. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the
Evangelical Church of which Mr. Hosler was a member. Rev. Metzner,
assisted by Rev. Owens, will officiate and interment will be in the
Lutheran Cemetery on the Ft. Wayne road east of the city.
