 WEIRTON - Robert Van Smith, 47, of 152 Beverly Ave., Weirton, died in Allegheny General Hospital Pittsburgh on Thursday evening after a short illness.
 He was born Jan. 20, 1931 in Middlebourne, W.Va., the son of the late Albert and Harriet Gorby Smith.
 He was employed by Weir-Cove Moving and Storgage and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Follansbee.
 He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Korean Conflict where he received the Commendation Ribbon Pendant for meritorious service. He was secretary and treasurer for Teamster Union Local 428.
 He is survived by his wife Mrs. Lucille (Peaches) Doak Smith, three sons, Greg, Doug, and Joe, all at home, four sisters, Mrs. William (Bessie) Locascio of Follansbee; Mrs. Virginia Cowan of Cairo, W.Va.; Mrs. John (Nancy) Hawkins of La Porte, Ind., Mrs. Betty Shreve of Middlebourne, two brothers, Paul Smith of Weirton, and Mike Smith of Middlebourne.
 Friends may call at the Turley Funeral Home New Cumberland, today 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 where services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Hayes officiating. Burial in Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee.
