Continued: While his sons and daughter were young, Maurice worked at a feed store owned by a Mr. Richter. Over time he saved enough money to open his own feed and pet store, which he did, just a half block down on Greene Street. The customers must have liked the new business, as they followed him to the new store and Mr. Richter closed his business a few months later. Maurice genuinely liked the business he started, and the people who bought from him. But, as his heart condition worstened and he was no longer able to lift 100 pound bags of feed, he sold the store. He then opened an Esso gas station in Randallstown and worked there until he retired in the late 1940's. When the state started to build Liberty Dam and create the reservoir, Maurice took a job as a night watchman and worked there until they finished building the dam in the early 1950's. Then he went to the new construction of the Ashburton Filtering Plant and worked there as a watchman until it was completed. This was his last job.
