After an illness of ten days from the flu which developed into double pneumonia, Mrs. Lena Garst, passed away Monday evening at her home west of Albright church. The entire family were stricken with the influenza at the same time but the serious complications arising in the condition of Mrs. Garst caused a weakness of the heart which resulted in her demise. Mrs. Lena Garst was born in Paducah, Kentucky, on October 2, 1890, where she lived until her father, Nicholas Hill, was killed in a railroad accident, when she was sent at the age of ten years to the home of her aunt, Mrs. Sarah Mason, in Rankin, Ill., to make her future home. It was in that city that she met Mr. Andrew Garst, while he was an employee of the L.E.&W. railroad company. They were married November 24, 1915, and came to Tipton to reside, but later moved to a farm a few miles west of Atlanta. There is one little three year old daughter, Lena Louise, left motherless by the death of Mrs. Garst. Her mother, Mrs. M.E. Brigman, lives in Paxton, Ill., one sister in Paducah, and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Simcock and Mrs. Mattie Novotny, reside in Fort Worth, Texas; and a brother, Nicholas Hill, is a resident of Chicago.

Death came Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock to one of the good and lovable mothers of the county when Mrs. Andrew Garst died at the Mercy hospital in Elwood, where she was taken Friday morning following an illness of nearly two weeks with what developed as a severe cold and finally developed into spinal meningitis. From the time she was taken to the hospital, it was apparent she could not recover from this dread disease and as far as it is possible members of the family and the wide circle of her friends were prepared for the worst. Mrs. Garst took a heavy cold two weeks ago and an infection developed in tho ears, then, meningitis
developed in the spinal column and medical science could not bring a recovery. The body was taken to Young's funeral home for preparation. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at St. John's Catholic church,
with burial in St. John's cemetery. Mrs. Garst who was a devout Catholic, was Helen Caroline Ripberger and was born east of Tipton, December 12, 1886. Her parents were John and Rosa Ripberger, pioneers of this community. She was one of seven children in the family. Matt and Ralph, brothers, are deceased, and surviving are John, Mrs. Tillie Ferguson, Pauline, and Emily, all of this city. She was married 1923 to Andrew Garst, who survives with three children, Mary, Joseph and Louis, at home.

Mrs. Rosa Ripberger, widow of John Ripberger and for almost 50 years a resident of Tipton county, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Charles N. Ferguson, corner of Mill and Armstrong streets, Sunday morning at 12:30, after an illness of several years. For the past three months she had been confined to her bed and for some time her condition had been critical, death being expected. Paralysis caused death, she having suffered an attack several years ago and another three weeks ago. Following the death the body was removed to the Young mortuary where it was prepared for burial, afterwards being taken to the home of the daughter Mrs. Ferguson to lie in state until the hour of the funeral. Services will be held at the St. John's Catholic church Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, with Rev. F. Jos. Bilstein officiating and burial will follow in St. John's cemetery, beside the husband whose death occurred in 1913.
