Notes
a. Note:   aised all of them to adulthood except the first Edward who died as a child. She also raised her grandson Tom James, son of her son Thomas and Lila (Kraatz) James. Lila contracted thypoid fever in the hospital when she had Tommy and she died a few days later.
 Tommy once told me that they never had a whole lot but that grandma saw to it that they always had a Christmas tree. The only year he ever remembered not having one was the year she died.
 Elizabeth's daughter Julia, came to Saginaw for a visit in 1938. There is a letter writen by her to Marie Jamess in her media album that tells about this visit. She took her mom back to Iowa and Elizabeth died there of diabetes. Her body was brought home to Flint, MI and she is buried there next to Edward.
 Julia's daughter Beth told me that Grandma James used to get Beth to sneak her marsh mellows. Beth of course didn't realize her grandmother had diabetes and wasn't supposed to eat them as she was only 8 when grandma died. She said when she was older and realized what grandma had died of she felt guilty for a long time that she had contributed to her death. Poor Beth. Grandma certainly must have known better. Yet I can truly understand as I also love my sugar. Maybe it's a gene. Anyone else in the family have this problem?
