 At the age of ten, Guy had to quit school and go to work to help support his family as a teamster. However he never stopped learning as he was an avid reader all his life. When his eyesight failed in later years he received the books for the blind on tape and listened to them. He subscribed to U. S. News and World Reports to keep up on current events.
  Guy enjoyed fishing whether for catfish in Iowa rivers or trout in Colorado. He fished for sunfish, walleyes, - He just fished. He took his granddaughter Janet to catch night crawlers after the thunderstorms in Guthrie Center, Iowa so he could have good bait for fishing. He also enjoyed deer hunting in Colorado with his son-in-law, Bob Ricketts.
  At one time he was a volunteer fireman in Guthrie Center, Iowa. During WWII Guy worked for the Army as a civilian and moved around to several bases in Minneapolis, MN, Kansas City, KAN, Colorado Springs, CO, Camp Hale, CO and finally Rifle, CO. In Camp Hale, (1944-45) he was in charge of a group of German POWs who were dismantling the camp for the Army. In Oct. of 1945 the family ( Guy, Flossie, Daughter Virginia, and two grand daughters, Nancy and Janet Evans) moved to Rifle, Co.
  Guy and Flossie opened a Chevron filling station and ran it for a couple of years. They sold this station and bought a nearby Phillips 66 station before moving to DeBeque and opening a restaurant. In 1949 they moved to Leadville and owned a laundry, however Guy had to move back to lower altitudes for health reasons and moved the laundry back to Rifle.
  Guy and Flossie returned to Iowa to care for their aging Mothers and stayed there until 1956. Guy retired from the Rural Electric Association in Guthrie Center and then retired permanently to Rifle, Colorado.
  He enjoyed smoking his pipes and used a cherry flavored tobacco. He enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses and collecting stamps. He had a Chihuahua named "wee one" for many years.
  He was a kind and gentle man with his family. He provided a good living and worked hard all his life.
 He was a good father and husband and a wonderful grandfather.
