 CONVERSATION WITH DANICE BALTICH CLIFFORD:
A means of punishment when Christ was a boy in school was having to kneel in the corner on dry beans. This would have been an incentive to be good and would be considered child abuse in this time period (1999).
Christ studied concert violin in Sarajevo, Serbia. Sometimes, instead of playing outside as a youngster he studied foreign language. Apparently education was important to both he and his brother, Urosh.
Christ and his brother, Urosh, arrived in this country together from Serbia and signed up for night school to learn English. They went to work in a furniture factory.
Later, Christ formed a Tamburitza orchestra. In that group he played a Brac (an instrument shaped similar to a mandolin with the tone of a viola). He played for church social functions. He also formed the church choir. (Doris Della McConnehey Baltich Frame said that when the orchestra performed, the performers dressed in the traditional Serbian clothing of long ago.) Danice Baltich Clifford has Christ's instrument.
Christ was a grocer and owned a grocery store on 4th Avenue in Gary, Lake Co., IN. After Olga and Christ were married, the bride moved to Gary, IN where Christ lived.
