 Genevieve E. Childers, 94, of Springfield, formerly of St. Louis, MO and Herrin, IL, passed away at 12:03 am Friday, June 10, 2016. She was born in Pittsburg, IL the daughter of Robert and Ollie Hagler Blankenship.
 She married Herbert Childers in 1942, and a week later he was drafted into WW II. The first 4 years of their marriage he served his country and returned to her side in 1946. Together they raised their two sons, Michael and Timothy.
 Genevieve devoted her professional career to education. She worked for many years as a secretary for the St. Louis Board of Education. She retired in 1983 from Clinton School in St. Louis. She moved to Springfield in 2008 to the Capital Retirement Village so she could be closer to her family. She enjoyed her new home and quickly became friends with her neighbors. She was a member of Zion Methodist Church in St. Louis, and attended Laurel Avenue United Methodist Church in Springfield.
 Herbert preceded her in death in 1985. She also was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and a brother.
 She is survived by her two sons; Michael and Timothy (wife Jodie) Childers both of Springfield, and her three loving granddaughters; Ginny (husband Aaron) Kincer of Chattanooga, TN, Lauren Childers DeAmore of Plymouth Meeting, PA and Molly Childers of Springfield. She also has several cousins.
 Graveside services will be held at the Egyptian Memorial Gardens (formerly East Lawn Memorial Gardens) at Energy, IL.
