Note: Lena disappeared from Elgin, IL about 1938. It was first believed that she had been slain near Chicago, IL when the body of an unidentified girl was discovered in a ditch near Ravinia Park. Relatives went there to view the body but found that it was not the missing Elgin girl. No trace was found of her until 1957. It was while visiting with her sister, Edna, that Edna's husband, Vernon Fellows, died and the visit had to be cut short. It is thought that Lena ran off with her sister, Irene's husband, Ray Jahnke. Later it was told to Joyce Sprayberry, William H. Calhoun's daughter, that Lena was living with her sister, Edna and Edna's husband, John Cheperka during Edna's pregnancy with their daughter, Audrey Cheperka. Since Edna had to be put to bed rest with the first child, John Cheperka, Jr., Lena was helping out around the house and caring for her sister. John Cheperka, being a heavy drinker, was heard to ask Edna when her good for nothing sister was either going to start paying rent or leave. Lena left at that time and it was 30 years later that she was heard from again after she married William Calhoun. Audrey Cheperka remembers a card coming in the mail with a little blue bird on it saying a little bird said if you call _______ number you'll find your sister Lena. Lee and her three sisters got together in Bisbee, AZ after 30 years apart. Obituary in the Ojai Valley News Wednesday, August 18, 1976: Leone Calhoun
