Charles Mckenna (32) died in Hobart 11-07-1887 (Ref. 837/35) don't know if this is your Charles Edward but his age fits the age of Charles when he married Mary Mackrell.

Text: Dear Andrea As promised I said I would write after being in Adelaide. We had a very enjoyable holiday, returning in time to mind our Grandchildren during the school holidays, actually only 2 days each week. These times we cherish as "little ones" grow up too fast.
We stayed with Mont & Gaye Howden in Adelaide and visited Ted and Barbara Mahoney. I mentioned that the Howdens had someone visit who was doing the family tree. It was the "Paynter Family tree she was researching. I have enclosed a copy of an extract from a book which Ted Mahoney gave me. He had only the extract not the book. I wrote that on a long time ago because i thought my children would not know who was in the photo. You can have it as I have a few more photos of them taken at different times.

Dear Andrea,
Great to see someone trying to unravel our Mckenna family tree. I started to make some inroads whilst we were in New South Wales, but let it lapse when we came over here.
Fortunately, I've kept all my letters and info from around the coutnry and can help a little bit by going through the tree that you sent me.
Information from a eltter from 1316 Rose Paynter on 1-5-83. Rose is in a nursing home in perth and well past uttering a coherent sentence!
#40 Mary Ann Mackerall came from Lavender Farm in Lambeth, England and had 1 broter and 3 sisters. (Somewhere I saw a photo of one of our Australian members of the family outside Lavender farm. He was in WWI uniform.)
I have a copy of the marriage certificate, No 1886, of Charles Joseph Mckenna to Mary Mackrell in Hobart Town on 4-3-1878. Mary was illiterate and placed a cross on the certificate.
Mary had twin nieces, Lydia and Louise. Lydia had a daugter Florence, who married Jack Morley. They had Kieth, joan, and Doris. Kieth had a son and two daughters, of which on daughter became a doctor. Kieth used to own a newspaper, but the son has two newsagencies in Ormond, Victoris.
#131 Mary Isabel was born in Sandy Bay Road, Hobart Town at the foot of Mt Wellington. the house was there in the early 70's when #1312 Ted visited there. I have also seen a water colour paining of the house and surrounds but can't remember where. She died on 19-4-1947 and is buried with Jabez in te Anglican protion of the Kalgoolie Cemetery.

Dear Andy,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you as I have had a few interuptions. First Pop ad I started to pack up his stuff. He is shifting into Moe fairly soo. Then I had two bouts of a 24 hour virus a fortnight apart. Now I can finally get myself going again.
I have been to the library and used the microfiche and got some information on the Bridgfords. Its sketchy but it was enought to get started. Also I have been to the Mormon Church and boy what a time I had in there. I copied all the info on the Mckennas from the Tamanian records and checked the dates etc with our info and 99% of it is right. However, the birthdate for Elizabeth mary Mckenna - Daughter of Charles and Catherine Mchugo, showed up as Born on 15 august 1852 (confirmed Ref.1635, photocopy on file).
Now a Charles Mckenna came up on screen as having died age 57 and the date he died was 24 Sept 1875. His re. No 2981. His parents names weren't listed.(note has been made to order a copy from Tas Archives).
I went to the library again and I checked on Shipping records. I found a Chrles Mckenna came out to Australia from Ireland in 1853 at age 33, on the Lady Kennaway which Departed Southhapton 09/05/1853 and arrived in Melbourne 15-08-1853. A Catherine McHugh (spelt exactly as written) came out on the same ship but in Dec 1848. Interesting huh. It gets better.
If the Charles Mckenna who came out in 1853 aged 33 would have had to be born in 1820. Now if he is the same bloke as the one listed in the Tasmanian records who died age 57 years, that means the dates are out by 2 years. right, a Rose Ann Mckenna came out to Australia on the Lady Kennaaway in Aug 1853 and she was 28 years old. Lets just hope these two are brother & sister I would guess they are.
A friend of mine suggest I write to the Genealogy society of Victory, 252 Swanston St, Melb, and send a stamp self addressed envelope and ask them if they know anyone researchig the name Mckenna and they will write back and tell you yes or no. If yes, they send a list of people who are doing that reasearch.
Am enclsoikgn Pops birth & wedding cerfificate and also a list from the microfish from the Tasmanian records. I know you have all the dates etc. but I wanted you to have my copy as well.
As promised am enclosing two copies of the info from the Mormon Church records in the family history section. some of th dates are a bit iffy but I copied as to what came up on the screen. I will also attach an additional note on each sheet to explain some theories I have about that particular peron marked. I hope you can undertand all this. Send me an update sheet asap so I can fill in the blanks as I go. I may have to enlarge the one I have. It's getty very dog eared.
Well I am going now. Let me know what you think about all this info I have left the Bridgeford side for the moment and will concentrate on Mckenna's. I still haven't heard from Terry Mckenna. If you get stuck or a new lead Ring Me.
When checking on names, check on all spelling eg Tulloch, Tullock, Currie, Curry etc... As I found a person who spet their name Tullock.

Charles Mckenna - Refert to letter
Christopher Peter McKenna - Came up on screen as Peter. The birth date given 25 Dec 1863. On the enclosed handwritten
photo copied sheet, his birthdate showed up as 25 Dec 184 which to me I think is the same person.
Cathleen, Charles, Christopher - All born to Christopher Mckenna and Mary Jane Lane don't seem to correspond with the name of
the children the the family tree sheet thats already done.
Jacob - Born to Catherine mckenna in 1856. Could be Cathein McHugo's child. he doesn't belong to
Catherine and Arthur Currie as dates don't correspond. Catherine - She died age 47. Death date 18 Aug 1854. (I wonder if this is Cathine McHugo)
May have written date down wrong. But I just realized it can't be. Date doesn't add up with

Nan and I were talking about you when your letter arrived. Hey you sure have given us a gig job. We have some very sketchy info for you, but at least it's a start. I will also put in a few contacts for you as well. They may or may not be still at the same address. Do you need step children to be but in or not? Am enclosing photos which may be of help also. As I said at the start some of this info is very sketchy and may need to be double checked. Am going to set it out as you had it so that its easy to understand.
Charles Edward Mckenna married Mary Macrel (could be 2 L;s). Check up. Charles and Mary had 5 children. Mary had a son Syd from second marriage. Charles, Ted, Rose, Isabel, and Monteford (Pops dad).
Charles, no info at this stage. All we knew is that he lived with his sister Rose in Tecoma.
Ted married Ada and they had a daughter Lola (married name Semel)
Lola adopted 2 children. Lola's last known address was 24 Ormond Road, Clayton. Vic, Phone no 03 9544 3380.
Rose married a Bryant. They were married 3 months then her husband died. I do know that Rose and her brother charles lived up the road from my nan's in Tecoma. We think rose had a heart attach in the Newsagency in Tecoma.

Isabel married a Mohone and they had a daughter Nellie who never married.
New this bit of info my refer to Isabel but am not sre but could be well worth checking up on. Have put a tree on the oter side of this page as to how they may be conecte but pop said he doesn't remember any of the names.
Sydney Paynter 23 Ennis St Eaton 6232 WA. He is the son of Isabels 2nd marriage. Isabel has a sistr named Rose. Syd, rose, Mont, Ted, Nell and anne have the same mother. Syds son Ian Paynter lives at 3/34 Allison St Goulburn 2580. Phon 048218006.
Monteford Mckenna was born 27-7-1884 in Hobart Tasmania. He ded 18th or 19th December 1963. He had a stroke then heart attack. He is buried at Fern Tree Gully Vic. He was station master at Yallourn.
He married Una Vera Bridgeford she was born in Bemndigo vic. Una Vera died in Traralgon vic, in 1980s. She is buried at Fern Tree Gully Cemetery.When Charles died Mary married a Hickman. They had a son name Syd. Syd get married and his wife name is Corinne. Corinne had been married before and had a daughter Trudy. Syd and Corinne had 2 daughters name Lois and Valerie. Lois married and American who was a schoolteacher. Valerie married and her surname is Halliday. Her husband worked at the Warrnambool Press.
Monteford and Una had 4 children. Mary Edward (Teddy), Una and Monteford (pop)
Mary was about 16 years old when she died of an unkown illness. She is buried in an unmarked grave in Nhill Cemetery.
Edward who never married died in a shooting accident. He is buried with Una at Nhill cemetery in an unmarked grave.
Una who never married was a classical pianist and she also played the flute, mandolin, violin and several other musical instruments. She was educated at Presentation Convent in Windsor Vic. She died of Pnuemonia. She is buried wither her brother Edward in an unmarked grave in Nhill Cemetery.
Monetford John (my dad) was born on 6-3-1915 at Bridgewater Victoria. A retired Motor Mechanic. He married rita (Tommy) Dahlenburg on 30-12-1939 at Nhill Vic. Rita was born on 13-4-1913 at Nhill Vic. They both lvied in Yallourn, Moe and new Newborough. Pop Lived in Dandenong but Nan didn't.
Monteford and Rita had 4 children Roger, John, David and Marilyn.
Roer charles mckenna was born on 17-10-1940 at Nhill. He married Margaret Ann Peet at Moe on 11-11-1966.
Margaret was born on 1-8-1947 Nottingham England. They got divorced about 1992. roger and Margaret had 4 children Darren, Andrew, Brian and Greg.
Darren Anthony Mckenna was born on 4-9-196 at Yallourn Vic. Darren married Alison Gaye Halle on 29-8-1987 at Moe. Alison was born on 192-1968 in Melbourne. Darren and Alison had a daughter Kerrina Lorraine who was born on 22-2-1988 at Moe. Darren and Alison divorced when Kerrina was about 2 years old. Alison has since remarried and has a son. (If you need this info let me know).Darren also has a son. David Gerit who was born on 4-11-1994 at Bendigo Vic. His mother is Christine De Jong. Darren and Chris are not married. Darren lives with Greg.
Andrew James Mckenna was born on 8-10-1968 at Yallourn vic. Never married. He has a girlfriend Julie who has three children fro a former marriage. Andrew has no children and lives in Cranbourne Vic.
Brian Robert Mcknna was born on 3-2-1970 at Yallourn vic. Brian has a daughter Jessica Lee who was born on 24-7-1989 at Moe. Her mother is Julie Ann Harvey whose birthdate is 14-8-69. Brian is no longer with her as she has married someone else and has since had 2 more children. Brian has a girlfriend Dianne who has two kids name Lee and doug from a former marriage. Brian never married. Lives in Boronia.
Gregory mark Mckenna was born 9-2-1971 at Yallourn vic. Never married. Has a girlfriend Catherine. Greg lies at 58 Bloue gras Cres, Pakenham Vic. Phone 059413554.
Rogr remarried. Lionie May Mckee (nee mckleod) on 22-2-1977. Leionie's birthdate 23-8-1948. They live in Blackburn North Victoria. Lionie has two children. Joanne and Andrew from a previous marriage.
You know the details on your dad and David.
Marilyn Mckenna was born on 2-12-1952 at Yalloun vic. Lived in Moe and New Newborough. Never married.
One thig I did forget was that Nan lost twins at 6 months. They were both boys Peter John and Michal David wee born on 11-9-1942 at Yalloun. They only lived about 1 hour and a half. If you come across any other twins through your search can you let us know as on nan's side there weren't any that we know of. So we want to know if twins run on Pops side.
Pop said that when he went on a bowling tournament in Tasmania in 1969, he met a Terry mckenna and his wife Peggy. Terry told him he thinks he may be a cousin of Pps. Terry's last know address is 34 Ironcliffe road, Penguin 7316, Tasmania. Phone (03) 6437 2207
Pop also said that when he went to a pna bowls tournament at Bedford bowling club, he was bowling with Guy Mckenna. He was talking to a Peter Mckenna who is still a member there. He said Peter had a sistr (living near the Dianella Hotel). Anyway they were trying to work out if he and pop could be related. So I suggest if you contact Peter he may be of help.
My dad has a cousin name Edie Henson. Edie lived in London with her son Kieth. Edie also had a daughter. Edie was born May 11th 1892 and died Jan 15th 1985. If you contact Kieth 58 Meadow close, thatcham, Newbury, Berkshire RG13. 4RJ
Keith may or may not be still at that address, but give it a go anyway.
Edie ha two nephews Arthur and Ted Lowe, who were twins. Arthur was Mr Mannering in Dad's Army and Ted did commentating for the ABC series Pot black.
In ur local phone book there are a few Mckennas in Lakes Entrance. Do you want us to follow these up?
Am going to write to Peter Mckenna the ex-Collingwood Footballer who was a school teacher. He was from Tasmania, and see if I can find out some information from him.

Am enclosing some aarticles that Nan had that may also be of help to you. I need you to send me the basics for the internet. Am doing a course at Tafe and I want some info on the basics.
