a. Note:   * Lenhardt was born on the 26 of October 1908 to Adolf Otto and Maria Polzin. * He was born at the german settlement of Highfields ( which is outside Toowoomba, Queensland). * Lenhardt married Florence Gillies on the 10th of February 1932 at Thornville, Queensland. They had 5 children. * Lenhardt (Len) Otto attended the Lutheran school at Highfields until he was about 10 - 1/2 day in German, 1/2 day in English. At this time he told his mother (Maria) that he was not going to German School anymore, she thought it over and decided they would all be speaking English so it made sense and agreed. * Len had a variety of jobs beginning when he was still a child. He did gardening at the school, chopped wood and prompted horses to go faster. As an adult he owned a dairy farm at Nanango. He then bought a piggery/crop farm at Mondure. After losing his left arm in a farming accident (his son Noel accidently started the peanut thresher while he had his arm in it) his son Noel took over the running of the property. Len and Florence continued to lived in the main house on the property. * Snippets from Lenhardt . Lenhardt saw his sister Dorothea die. She went to take a kettle off the fire and her nighdress caught fire. In her frightened state she ran to the cow yards instead of letting her family put out. Dorothea was just 6 years old. She died on the 23rd and was buried on the 25th May 1911 at the Geham/Cabarlah Cemetery. * When Lenhardt was a young a man accidently killed his horse. The man replaced his 10 shilling horse with a new bike and a new horse. Len was quite pleased with the deal. * As a 14 year old Len was asked to take his mother's car to Crows Nest to be looked at. He remembered it as an interesting time, as it was the first time that he had driven a car. * Wilhelm, Len's brother was kicked in the face by a horse and underwent reconstructive sugery. This was very successful considering it was a new procedure. * As a youngster at Highfields Lenhardt remembers getting into a lot of trouble for throwing rocks at his grandmother's house. It was actually one of his cousins who was responsible. * Len had an old truck that continually broke down so he bought a new one for 200 pounds, but every 1000 miles he had to tighten the wheel nuts on the back rim so the wheel didn't come off. * When Len was a young man going to dances along with the other young men they enjoyed the odd practical joke. One of these was hooking up someones horse and sulky on either side of a fence and watching them try and drive away. Another was swapping the 2 large back wheels and the small front wheels on a sulky/wagon. * Len borrowed his mother's (Maria) car for his honeymoon, which they spent at his relatives at Murgon. * Lenhardt died in August 1998 and was buried on the 14th August at the Wondai Cemetery. Has notes.
