Note: George left home and moved to Sumter, S. C.--working at The Sumter Casket Co. George moved to Rose Hill, N. C. and installed and operated the first light plant in the area. In those days the power plant did not operate 24 hours a day. Late at night the power would be turned off until the next morning. He would cause the lights to flicker--thus giving everyone a notice to head for home before "lights out." George moved back to Sumter, S. C.--working again at The Sumter Casket Co. George frequently told the story of how he and his brother would take their sister's dolls and put them in a box and bury them. Caskets seem to run in the family for a long time. George left the Casket company and operated a neighborhood grocery store.
