a. Note:   Attended Sequoyah Grade School and Central High School, Muskogee, OK, graduated 1938. Also Draughon's Business College, Muskogee, OK, 1938-1940, did not graduate. Was employed as a bookkeeper at an auto parts and machine company from 1940 to 1942 when he entered the Army.
  Enlisted 29 May 1942, earned his parachute wings in November 1942 at Fort Benning, GA. Rated a Senior Parachutist 11 Aug 1950, Master Parachutist 28 Sept 1954. In 1956 he had over 80 jumps. Was courtmartialed and fined $200 for disorderly conduct. Stationed at Fort Benning during WWII. Served with 7th Infantry Division during Korea (9 Mar 1952-17 April 1953), participated in the Second Korean Winter, Korean Summer-Fall and Third Korean Winter campaigns and received the Combat Infantryman's Badge and Bronze Star.
  Commissioned 19 January 1945, through OCS at Fort Benning, GA. Served 7 September 1945 to 21 September 1948 with 11th Airborne Division in occupation of Japan. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant 25 July 1946. July 1949 to Jan 1952: 11th Airborne Division. Promoted to Captain 4 January 1951. April 1953 to November 1954: 11th Airborne Division. In 1956 he became company commander of Division Headquarters Company, 11th Airborne Division, Augsburg Germany. Promoted to Major 18 January 1959.
  In 1956 he was 5' 8", weight 145, grey eyes, brown hair.
