She moved to Tallahassee with her parents when she was only a few months old, attended Leon County elementary schools and graduated from Leon High School. She graduated from the Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) with a B.S. degree. She did social welfare work in Cleveland and later went to Germany after World War II to be in charge of a USO center in Germany. There she met and married Captain Joe Reynolds Tramell. They remained in Germany until 1959 when they returned to the US and were stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After serving 20 years, Major Tramell retired and the family moved to Biloxi, Mississippi. There he was Director of Red Cross for that area. During the Vietnam War he volunteered for a Red Cross assignment and he and the family lived at Marine Corps Air Station in Iwakuni, Japan. He died of a heart attack and the family settled in Sanford, Florida. Upon her return she began work again in social welfare but became ill and died suddenly on April 24, 1975 after open heart surgery.
