Note: Born about 1733, possibly in Maryland. Evidently the second son mentioned in the 1755 tax digest for Orange County, North Carolina. His oldest daughter (first mentioned in his will) Susan Terry died Sept. 18, 1842, in Harris County, at age 64. Thomas' will proven in Putnam County, Georgia was dated February 18, 1815; proven May 6, 1816. "To daughter Susannah Terry 3 negroes and 100 acres of land in Burke County which property was div. some time ago...to daughter Nancy Thomas and Betsey Thomas and their heirs (they both being dead) 6 negroes...daughter Wineford Mitchell 2 negroes...son Thomas Whitehead 2 negroes and lot of land No. 69 in 3rd Dist...son James Whitehead 2 negroes... son William Whitehead 2 negroes & lot of land on which he now lives...son Hilliard Whitehead 2 negroes...son Jon Whitehead 2 negroes...beloved wife Jemimah Whitehead, one negro woman and 4 until my youngest son comes of age." Appt's Burwell Rogers, Matthew Jones, Coleman Pendl Exors. Signed Thomas Whitehead. Wit: Jno. Smith, Thomas Hardeman, Ezekiel Turner. Probated 6 May 1816. A deed registered Aug 1765 from George Brown to Thomas Whitehead in Orange County, North Carolina suggests that this Thomas was in Orange County in 1765 and did not go to Georgia with the other members of the family in 1764 and 1765. He seems to be the Thomas Whitehead on Tax return, Terry District, Jefferson County, Georgia in 1799. Children mentioned in his will in this order: Susannah Terry, Nancy Thomas, Wineford Mitchell, William, Thomas, James, Hilliard and Jones. ------------------------------ "The Colonial Records of the State of Georgia," February 1768, p. 427 Read a Petition of Thomas Whitehead setting forth that he had been some time in the Province had had no Land granted him and was desirous to Obtain Land for Cultivation. Therefore praying for One hundred Acres on the South Side of Briar Creek to adjoin Land he had purchased of John Maxkay. Ordered That the said Petition be rejected. -------------------------- possible birth 29 May 1737
