Notes
a. Note:   I Found that Armstead was mulatto from census records as stated in all census he was found. After researching and because of the date and state he was born in more then likely Armstead was the son of a slave and slave owner. Warren County had many plantations and plantation owners with the last name of Davis. Which one I still have not been able to trace. He must have come North after that where he met and married Mary who immigrated to the US from Ireland in about 1860 as stated on her census. I do not know her maiden name but hope find some link.
Armstead served in the Civil War enlisting September 20, 1864 serving with the 124th infantry regiment, US colored troops in Kentucky. He was mustered out October 24, 1965. You can find his name on the African American Civil War Memorial in Washington DC Plaque #D-129.
